Study time!

It's study time! I've go to read a lot on the Japanese lay judge system which has been newly introduced the previous year. Now a judgment in a criminal trial is not necessarily a matter of law professionals but of ordinal citizens like me, if they are eligible to vote over 20 years old. The Justice Ministry expects more common senses by six citizen judges should be brought in on the process before the final judgment is determined with three professional judges. Whewwwwwwww, it's a tough topic especially when it comes to English but it's a good opportunity to study the system itself. I learn a lot by reading lots of Japanese materials before studying it in English.
I might one day have a notice from the Supreme Court that I am one of these six citizen judges who are picked out from the voters list. Maybe not----honestly I hope not as a matter of fact. I hesitate to play a role to determine one's destiny.

This time our volunteer group decide to focus on the new judge system. None of them is not familiar with this new judge system so we exchange knowledge and information together in case we are asked to explain it in English. Pretty tough, though. What a weekend!

Thank you for a reminder. As a matter of fact, I am not a very devoted type of members. I always enjoy taking part in a study group to meet some of my good friends.
I think I'll have more time to visit the blogosphere when the meeting is over. Can't wait.

Wow, you do look ahead! I'm glad that ordinary people will have a say in judgment; I don't systems where judges are in total control. Too easy to corrupt them.

it would be wild to be a judge, or to sit on the supreme court. making judgments would be such an important, yet heavy burden. i make judgments all day every day, but none of them really have much of an impact on anyone since i have zero power or authority.
